Numerical Investigation on the Effects of Varying the Arc length of a Windshield on the Performance of a Highway Installed Banki Wind Turbine

Two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations are employed to investigate the effects of adding a circular-arc-shaped windshield on performance Banki type vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), particularly application where VAWT is harnessing energy in highway caused by passing vehicles. Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) approach used calculate turbulent flow within domain. Two sets simulation cases based two different vehicles (i.e., car and bus) performed with varying arc-length windshield. The results show that provides an increase captured up 16.14% compared no case when model used. In contrast, all using bus gives negative effect worst yields ?64.77%.
